Aerial 360 videos can offer breathtaking views, but popular drones such as DJI and Yuneec can be expensive. Reader Martin Smith shows that you don’t need an expensive drone to capture aerial 360 videos.
In Martin’s case, he used his Samsung Gear 360 (reviewed here) with a Cheerson CX20 quadcopter. Check out Martin’s sample video:
To mount the Gear 360 to the Cheerson, he used a camera mounting plate using the instructions here. The Gear 360 was inverted, and then he reoriented the video in ActionDirector. Martin had to omit the rubber dampeners so that the Gear 360 wouldn’t touch the ground. He plans to upgrade to retractable landing gear to provide an unobstructed view.
