eyeForce VR: a headset with 210-degree field of view

EyeForce is a crowdfunding project for an active VR headset based on the OSVR (Open Source VR) platform with an all-encompassing 210-degree view.

Field of view is an important component of immersion.  If the field of view is too narrow, it seems like the user is looking through a tube rather than being totally immersed in the virtual environment.

Right now, the most dominant active VR headsets — the Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, Playstation VR, and Samsung Gear VR — have fields of view between 94 to 110 degrees.  In contrast, eyeForce promises a field of view of 210 degrees, wide enough to fully surround the user’s vision.

Here is a video explaining the project:

Other specs:
– 3840 x 1080 resolution
– motion tracking: 9-axis IMU @1000 hz

eyeForce will be based on Open Source VR, which is cross-compatible with Vive apps and games when used with a plugin.

eyeForce competes with StarVR, which also has a 210-degree field of view.

Here is the official eyeForce website.  Here is a link to the eyeForce Kickstarter project.  Thanks to David Grass for bringing this to my attention!
