One of the most iconic rhythm / dance games, Space Channel 5, is coming to VR and will be shown at VRLA 2018!

Sega’s Dreamcast system did not succeed financially, but it will always be fondly remembered by video game fans as a ‘classic’ system, not just because it was the final console made by Sega, but also because it had an excellent selection of games.  (I still have my Dreamcast and it still works AFAIK… Yes, I have Typing of the Dead too — with two keyboards!)  One of the best-loved Dreamcast games is the retro sci-fi rhythm dance game Space Channel 5.  It featured a reporter named Ulala dancing off against aliens, with groovy 1960s style music:

Now Sega is bringing Ulala and Space Channel 5 to VR.  The announcement was made by Sega’s Official Twitter account:

The video clip seems to show it being played on the HTC Vive (reviewed here) using the Vive Trackers as controllers. I don’t know yet if it will be possible to play it on other SteamVR-compatible headsets such as Oculus Rift or Windows Mixed Reality using their own controllers.

I’ll definitely check out Sega’s booth at VRLA!  I also hope they can bring Virtua Cop, House of the Dead and other Sega classics to VR 😀
