Here are some of the 360 cameras that were used to capture 360 videos and live streams of the eclipse!

LIVE STREAMS

CNN: Insta360 Pro
CNN live streamed the eclipse from 7 locations across the continental United States.  For their live stream, CNN chose the Insta360 Pro (reviewed here), which can live stream in 4K (2D or 3D; here’s a tutorial), and has the option to simultaneously record the live stream as a stitched 360 video, or as individual videos from each lens, for subsequent re-stitching via desktop (on Insta360 Stitcher or any third party software).

Here is a recorded version of CNN’s live stream:

Highlights from the live stream will be shown here.

NASA: Z Cam S1
NASA live streamed from Charleston, South Carolina.   For their live stream, they used the Z Cam S1, which can live stream in 4K with the included WonderLive streaming software, using a PC with GTX 1070 graphics card or better.   Here is a recorded version of NASA’s live stream:

Time Magazine: Insta360 Pro
Time Magazine live streamed the eclipse from Casper, Wyoming.  For their live stream, they chose the Insta360 Pro, which they used to live stream to Facebook (note: the Facebook stream was limited to 1080p).  Here is a recorded version of Time Magazine’s live stream:

360 VIDEOS

In addition, here are some excellent 360 videos of the eclipse:

“Solar Eclipse Nashville 2017” by Vibe Entertainment  (I believe it was shot on Insta360 Pro – still verifying)

Jamie Pence – Z Cam S1

“Eclipse 2017 in 360” by Jamie Kohns (captured in Georgia) – Xiaomi Mijia Mi Sphere 360 camera (reviewed here)

Shawn Ide Studios (from Nashville, Tennessee) – shot on Garmin Virb 360 with Spatial Audio.

Also check out this very cool tiny planet time lapse by Randy Alan Shaffer – shot on the Insta360 Pro!

  • the funniest question i saw on one manufactures facebook group was this…

is it safe to use my …. 360 camera during the Eclipse? and the manufacturer didn’t laugh at them and actually answered their question, and even mentioned something about we don’t have any filters etc..

I’m like, err your shooting outdoors in the sun every OTHER DAY, why would you think this would be any different TODAY with your 360 camera you idiot?,,, so lucky I don’t work in the online reply guy for one of these manufacturers lolz.. I wouldn’t be able to help myself haha
