Nikon Keymission 360 low light sample photos and videos

My kids and I went to visit the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, California.  I took some 360 videos and photos with the Nikon Keymission 360 (reviewed here).

Taking photos at an aquarium can be challenging, even for a DSLR with a large sensor because of the low light, extreme white balance, and wide dynamic range.  It is even more difficult for a camera with a small sensor, such as those found in 360-degree cameras for consumers.

Nonetheless, I tried taking some photos and videos with the Nikon Keymission 360 under these difficult conditions.  I attached the Keymission to a monopod (such as the Monoshot or Nanopole) for stability.  I turned on Active D-Lighting to ensure that the highlight details in the aquarium would be captured.

Here are some low light videos (it’s a playlist) – please select 4k in the settings:

Here are some low light photos:

As expected, the Keymission’s quality suffers under these challenging conditions.  In particular, shadow areas look undersaturated, and sometimes noisy/grainy.  However, overall I thought the Keymission 360 did pretty well for low light.  Images are still detailed, with good white balance, and with a decent dynamic range for a small sensor camera.
