DEALS: Samsung Gear 360 for $350 with FREE Same Day Shipping with Amazon Prime! Here’s how to check if you can use the Gear 360.

The Samsung Gear 360 (reviewed here) is still the most affordable 4k 360-degree camera right now and also takes 30mp 360-degree photos.  It became officially available in the US yesterday, and now Amazon is selling the Gear 360 for $349.99 with FREE Same-Day shipping!

Before you buy, make sure you have everything needed to use the Gear 360:

The Gear 360 is compatible only with the latest flagship Samsung Galaxy smartphones (S6, S6 edge, S6 edge+, Note 5, S7, S7 edge).  I believe it is also compatible with Note 7.   Without a compatible phone, you can trigger it these ways:
– There’s a modified Gear 360 Manager app that can run on some Android phones.
– You can use an iPhone to trigger the Gear 360 remotely – works only for photos.
– You can trigger the Gear 360 remotely with the dedicated Bluetooth shutter.
– You can use the built-in self-timer.  Here is the menu.

You’ll also need to be able to stitch the photos and videos.  If you have an S7 (or Note 7), you can stitch photos and videos on your phone.  If you have another compatible phone, stitching on video will be limited to 2k.

If you don’t have an S7 or Note 7, or you want to stitch with the full 4k resolution, you need to stitch videos on the desktop:

  • If you have a Windows PC, you can use the included ActionDirector software.
  • If you have a Mac, you can use Autopano Video to stitch, or you may be able to use ActionDirector using bootcamp and Windows.

Whether you use Windows or Mac, you need to make sure your processor is compatible.

If you can jump through all these hoops, you’ll be rewarded with the most affordable 4k 360-degree camera at the moment.  Here is a detailed review, with sample photos and videos.
