Detu Sphere S: a higher resolution version of the Detu Sphere 800

Detu Sphere S is a higher-resolution version of the Detu Sphere 800 hemispherical 360 camera.

The Sphere S looks similar to the Sphere 800, except that it is black instead of yellow.

Specifications:
– field of view: 236 degrees
– aperture: f/2.0
– 1/2.3 inch 12mp backside illuminated (BSI) CMOS sensor by Sony
– photo resolution: 4000 x 3000
– video resolution: 2880 x 2160 @ 24 fps; 2560 x 1440 @ 30 fps
– weight: 77 grams
– dimensions: 50×50×43mm

The backside illuminated sensor means that it has better sensitivity in low light compared to a conventional CMOS sensor.

Detu has a sample photo posted which looks like it has good color and dynamic range, and no noticeable fringing.  The contrast is a little low, but that’s easy to fix.  Here’s a crop from the sample photo:

I don’t have info on availability or pricing yet.
