Dlodlo V1 ultrathin VR headset available on Kickstarter

A couple of months ago, I posted about the Dlodlo V1, an ultrathin VR headset.   The V1 is now available on Kickstarter.

The V1 is an ultrathin VR headset, just 16mm thick.  Here it is next to the Oculus Rift:

Besides being very thin and lightweight, the V1 also has a high resolution display (2400 x 1200).  It is not clear whether the claimed resolution is per eye or for both eyes.  However, according to Mashable, the resolution is high enough that they saw no screendoor effect.

Here are the specifications:

  • Resolution: 2400 x 1200
  • Field of view: 105 degrees
  • Refresh rate: 90 fps
  • Weight: 90 grams

Here’s a video about the Dlodlo V1:

The V1 can be connected to a PC or can be connected to a dedicated control module called the D1, which looks like a smartphone, for untethered operation:

The V1 has no external sensors and instead uses a 9-axis IMU.  This seems to suggest it can track head rotation but has no positional tracking capability (i.e., it can’t track x, y or z movement), although Dlodlo doesn’t clearly say the extent of its tracking capability.

The V1 MSRP is $559, with an early bird price of $529 and delivery expected in April 2017.  There is also a set with both the V1 and D1 for $888.  Here is their Kickstarter pageHere is their official website.
