The Android version of Rylo will be available on March 2, according to some users who have preordered it, and verified by an announcement buried in their website.

Rylo is a 4K 360 camera that became well known for its incredible stabilization, which shocked the entire 360 camera community, and is still regarded as the best built-in stabilization among 360 cameras.  See my detailed review here.

When Rylo launched, it was available only for iPhone, although their website said an Android version would be available in early 2018.  A couple of days ago, several people who preordered the Android version received an email that their Android Rylo was shipping.   The Rylo website was also updated to include a list of Android phones that are compatible with Rylo.

Here are Android phones with full compatibility:

Google Nexus 6P
Google Pixel
Google Pixel XL
Google Pixel 2
Google Pixel 2 XL
Samsung Galaxy S8
Samsung Galaxy S7

There are some phones that are compatible with Rylo but cannot render 360 videos (they can only render cropped videos):

Google Nexus 5X
Samsung Galaxy Note 5
Samsung Galaxy Note 4
Samsung Galaxy S6

Rylo also identified some phones that are not compatible:

Asus Zenpad 8
BlackBerry KEYone
Huawei Honor
Huawei P8
Motorola Moto G4
Nexus 7
Samsung Galaxy S5

One question is what kind of cable would be required for the sync.  It’s not clear whether a generic Micro USB cable to USB Type C would work.  In the case of the iPhone, only the Rylo sync cable has been found to successfully connect the Rylo to the iPhone.

Thank you very much to Scott Kragness, Mark Talarico, and others for bringing this to my attention!  If you’re interested in Rylo and want to see more samples, please join the Rylo Facebook group.
