It’s finally here — after 6 months of testing and re-testing, here is a comparison of twenty-three 360 cameras, with sample 360 photos and videos, in the world’s most comprehensive 360 camera comparison to date. And the good news is, this comparison tool is here to stay and will only continue to grow!
World’s most comprehensive hands-on 360 camera comparison to date
There are several 360 camera comparisons by me and by others, but this one is the most comprehensive one that features actual sample 360 photos and 360 videos from the cameras being compared. Moreover, I own most of these cameras (a few are loaners) and I’ve been using them in the field (not just testing them in an office) so I can tell you how these cameras are like in actual usage in the real world. I’m putting links to my articles about each camera in hotspots on the 360 photo comparison tool (see below) and in my 360 camera comparison table (see below as well).
Create your own fantasy matchups in A-to-B side-by-side comparisons
With so many 360 cameras included in this comparison, how do you go about comparing them? My solution is to enable you to compare any two of them side by side, for both 360 videos and 360 photos. For 360 videos, you’ll find each side has a playlist of sample 360 videos that you can choose from. Simply click on the upper left corner of each box to select a 360 camera on the left side and another on the right side to compare them. Similarly, for 360 photos, you’ll be able to make side by side comparisons by clicking on a carousel along the bottom of each box.

Getting an overview
If you want to get an overview-type of comparison, you can do that as well. I am relaunching my 360 camera comparison chart. I made one back in April 2016, but it was getting overwhelming to keep it up to date. Now I’ve made it much simpler, with only the price, the video resolution, photo resolution, key features, and compatibility. The table can be used to filter cameras based on your requirements. For example, if you only want to see cameras that are compatible with iOS, just type “iOS” in the search box and it will filter the results for you. If you want only those with live streaming, you can type “live streaming” and presto.  What if you wanted to know which cameras are compatible with iOS AND have live streaming? Just type “iOS live” and boom you have the list. 😀
The table is also somewhat sortable (it’s sortable but the sorting is somewhat unreliable – I’m going to fix it).

Only the beginning
If you think this comparison page is awesome, you’ll be glad to know this is only the beginning. This database is here to stay — it now has a permanent home on the menu bar of the 360 Rumors website. As I acquire new cameras, I’ll keep adding them to the database. In fact, I have several that I haven’t added yet.

So you really ought to bookmark the 360 camera comparison page as your go-to resource whenever you want to research or compare 360 cameras. And if you want to go there directly, it’s so easy to remember: 360cameracomparison.com!
How you can help
I started this project back in May and I’m launching it only now in November.  It really did take me a lot of time and effort and money to put this information together. And I can’t maintain it without your support. You can help in several ways: first, by spreading the word about the comparison page and 360 Rumors. If you have a site, or you’re posting about it on Facebook or forums or anywhere else, please include a link to it, or to 360Rumors.com. These links help bring traffic to the website, which is the lifeblood of 360 Rumors. Without those links, 360 Rumors and its information will be buried in Google searches, behind dozens of far larger tech websites that frankly don’t have as much useful information about 360 cameras.
Second, if you want to buy a camera or accessory, please consider using my affiliate links. To put it bluntly, that’s what enables me to get new cameras that I can add to the database. So I hope you like the Ultimate 360 Camera Comparison, and I hope it will be a useful tool to the 360 community.
Nice! That was a lot of work I’m sure. Especially like the comparison table.
Thanks Bill! Yes it was heck of a lot of work and if left to my own devices it still wouldn’t be published because there’s so much that still needs improvement. But I decided to finally let it go, and I’m just going to keep improving it 😀
Best regards,
Mic
Thanks Mic, this is awesome! It really is ultimate tool. I really like that reviews are linked to every camera here so I can go back and forth and re-read articles and double check samples. Really nice. Keep up the good work! Best,
B
Thank you very much Bruno! I will do my best to keep improving it!
Best regards,
Mic
This is Awesome, thanks Mic!
I was considering doing something similar myself, I have no need now!
Thanks Alex! I will continue working on improving this comparison page! Please feel free to take screenshots for your site, as long as you include a dofollow link back. Thank you very much!
Best regards,
Mic
Hi Mic. This is a very helpful tool. Great job. I didn’t view every camera but I did find an issue with 2016 Gear 360. The player is not detect it as a 360 video. BTW so far I am very impressed with the Insta360 Pro I purchased through you.
Thanks John! I will fix it.
Best regards,
Mic
Hi John! Thank you very much again for your support and for letting me know about this issue. I’ve uploaded a new sample for the 2016 Gear 360 and it should be fixed now. Thanks again!
Best regards,
Mic
Does the Insta360 Pro have already a higher photo resolution? You’ve mentioned it here some time ago https://360rumors.com/2017/09/insta360-boosting-insta360-pro-photo-resolution-15k-super-resolution-mode-via-firmware-update.html , but in this comparison it has a lower one.
Hi Kuba. They haven’t added the 15K mode yet. When they do, I will add new samples from the Insta360 Pro. But in the meantime, I’m glad you are using the tool to double check the statements that I make, and those of manufacturers, and other reviewers. The photos don’t care how much the camera costs or how good their marketing campaign is. It’s an honest test. 😀
Best regards,
Mic
