At IFA Berlin 2017, Acer launched the Holo360, a 360 camera with a built-in touchscreen and integrated LTE antenna, and Vision360, a fully spherical 4K 360 dashcam.

Acer Holo360 is a 360 camera with a touchscreen display and a built-in LTE antenna.  It was announced a few months ago as a prototype concept, and is now being launched for sale.

Unlike conventional digital cameras, 360 cameras don’t usually have a display.  Instead, you usually connect the 360 camera wirelessly to a smartphone, which you can use to control the 360 camera and download photos and videos for sharing.  Holo360 is designed to cut the middleman, as it were, by including a display on the camera body itself.  It can also be used for live streaming or sharing photos and videos, all without a smartphone.

Here are the key specifications:
– two 16mp sensors
– two 187-degree panomorph lenses
– aperture: f/2.1
– photo resolution: 16 mp
– video resolution: 4K @ 30fps
– 360 live stream – resolution TBD
– 3″ LCD touchscreen
– Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor
– Android 7.1
– LTE connectivity
– modes: Panoramic, Mirror Ball, Little Planet, Kaleido, Normal Photo, and VR view
– gyroscope, accelerometer, e-compass

While Holo360 has a gyroscope, accelerometer and magnetometer, I don’t know yet if it has image stabilization. I also don’t know if the LTE connectivity will require its own phone plan. And when Holo360 was revealed the first time, it was described as having phone capabilities. I don’t know if that’s still true

Acer Holo360 is available for preorder for $429 on B&H Photo.

VISION360

Acer also launched a second 360 camera — a 360 dashcam called Vision360. Here are its specifications:
– fully spherical 360 field of view
– video resolution: 4K (360) or full HD (single camera mode)
– aperture: f/2.0
– two 6mp sensors
– 2.4″ QVGA (320 x 240) LCD display
– Qualcomm Snapdragon 625
– GPS

The Vision360 includes features such as: location tracking (to help you find your car in a parking lot), impact sensors, the ability to alert you in realtime, remote viewing, and the ability to backup its videos to the cloud.

Price and availability for Vision360 have not yet been announced.

What do you think of these products?  Do you think 360 cameras should have a built-in screen like the Holo360?  What do you think of Vision360?  Post your thoughts in the comments!

  • Sounds ok, but not overwhelming, looking at the specs. Having a touchscreen can be useful for managing the settings, and for camera placement. But since I don’t want to be in every shot/footage, for actually shooting footage I don’t think it will help in any way. I do hope they can still also be controlled via an app or a dedicated remote.
