Here are new photos from the Ultracker Aleta S2C (previewed here), a 12K (66 megapixel) 360 camera that stitches 360 photos in-camera:
The two newest photos show less chromatic aberration. Ultracker is still improving the Aleta S2C. According to my contact, the next update will improve dynamic range with a WDR (wide dynamic range) mode. Unlike its HDR mode, the WDR mode uses only a single exposure.
What do you think of the photos so far? let me know in the comments!
Some stitching error in photo #2, along the fence.
With 4 cameras, it is quite normal (out of parallax point) it’s better to avoid nearest objects.
Dynamic range: auto HDR is a plus (but you can take manual bracketing).
Yes they are going to add hdr
The image quality seems awsome !
Hope to make the tripod or sticks invisible just like insta360.
BTW ,is the jpg file saved in microSD card panorama view(2:1 ratio) ? If yes , hope to add an option abling to AUTOMATICALLY cut top and bottom blurry areas of this jpg file in order to make the panorama view as a photo art work itself.
Thanks i will let them know
Hey Mic – I would really like to know when this will be released.
They keep pushing the date back.
Even when I email them it takes a long time for a reply.
I’m sure you can get a quick response.
Thanks
I’ll try to pin down a date but i think even they don’t know
The image quality seems not bad
yes the highlight are burned
Yes i’m hoping the wdr will fix that
Hope to make tripod or stick invisible.
BTW , is it possible to add an option to let users Automatically cut the top and bottom blurry areas in panorama view( 2:1 ratio ) jpg file saved in microSD card, to make the saved jpg file as a photography work itself ?
Hi Mandy you mean to avoid having the viewer see the nadir? Some viewers such as kuula support that and let you control the maximum pitch
I genuinely can not wait for this camera. I’ve been following their progress closely since I first read about it on this site.
Quality seems very good, however the overall images do appear like a filer has been applied, the kind of view when you wear sunglasses.
Thanks Mike. Hopefully they will have it ready soon
When will this camera be available?
:O Now that one has my name written all over it! Reasonably affordable and a brilliant photo quality. I’m one of those for who 360 photo’s are nr.1 and 360 video nr.2.
I saw the video resolution is only 4K? For the S2C then and the S2 will be higher quality video (and price)?
And as wanted feature: Stabilisation that follows the camera. If I turn a corner, the view should also turn a corner. Perhaps it already has that? I saw e-compass as stabiliser sensor mentioned?
And both mic input AND line input? That gives room for some serious audio work. You can then hook up just about anything!
Nevertheless, unless anything pops up that tops 66MP 360 images (other then my Panasonic with a Nodal Ninja) I think this will be my next one. Definitely!
Interesting. In my experience, technology gets both better and cheaper as competition grows. Let’s hope this is just such a case. I’ll be the first one in line if they succeed.
I hope so too! Seems like they are making progress, little by little.
I got mine earlier this week. Here’s a shot, straight out of the camera:

The iOS app is definitely a work-in-progress but the manufacturer has been very responsive to my questions and feedback.
Cool! thanks for sharing your Aleta photo!
Excellent sample. Do you happen to have any more?
Here is a large wall mural:

Same mural, 3-shot HDR, merged using Affinity Photo on iMac: (might take a while to load. it’s 47mb)

And here are a bunch of non-hdr shots of the bento box showroom:

What will the price on this one be?
Looks like they have put a purchase option on their website: One link goes to an oriental website
https://goods.ruten.com.tw/item/show?21823162092163
and the other goes to Amazon. Amazon Says out of stock.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07F1HHM8B
The top link lists it at 29,800 yuan which converts to approximately £3,345 / $4,383.
Hi Mic,
Will the Aleta S2C be able to take RAW images as well? Also will it still be released at around $1500 US?
Thanks very much.
My Aleta S2C does take RAW, but it’s not what I expected. You don’t end up with a stitched image, you end up with one raw image per lens (total of 5), and I haven’t found a way to stitch them yet. Already asked Aleta, and they are working to partner with some existing software in the future.
It is 1000USD according to the Chinese website.
