One of the major differences between the Oculus Rift and the HTC Vive is that the Rift was designed for seated or standing VR experiences, while the Vive is designed for roomscale VR, which allows the user to walk around the play area. Oculus was adamant that room-scale VR was unnecessary and impractical for most people. Finally, however, at Oculus Connect 3, Oculus relented and announced the availability of an Oculus Sensor for separate purchase ($79). With three sensors, the Rift would gain roomscale VR tracking capability.
The Oculus Sensor is now available on the Oculus Store (scroll down). Oculus added a disclaimer: “CAUTION: 360° and Room Scale tracking are experimental features—not all experiences may work as expected.”
Thanks to reader David Grass for bringing this to my attention!

3. OCULUS RIFT REVIEW AND COMPARISON
I just got the Oculus Rift yesterday! I’ll discuss why I got it even though I already got the Vive, PSVR and Gear VR. I’ll compare it to my other VR systems, and I’ll discuss whether my opinion about the Rift has changed.
