Vecnos IQUI (pronounced “ee-kwee”) is a new pen-sized 360 camera with four lenses designed for ease of use, designed by Shu Ubukata, who led the team that created the original Ricoh Theta.  Here’s the product video:

The IQUI’s unique optical design with four lenses enables it to be more compact than most other 360 cameras.

Here are IQUI’s key specifications:

  • Photo resolution: 5760 x 2880
  • Video resolution: 3840 x 1920 @ 30fps
  • Aperture: f/2.5
  • Shutter speed: 1/60,000 to 1/8 sec.
  • Exposure: Program Mode
  • Battery: non-removable.  Up to 100 photos, or 30 mins. of video.
  • Storage: 14.4GB (non-removable)
  • Weight: 60 grams.

The IQUI is designed for ease of use, with automatic exposure.  It will stitch its photos and videos automatically through the phone app, which can apply animated effects.  It can also enhance backlit photos.  According to Vecnos’ representative, the IQUI has no stabilization.

The IQUI has the optional carrying case ($98) that also serves as a charger.  As you open the case, the IQUI rises to the occasion, as it were.  The case can charge the IQUI twice before being depleted.

  • This is going to be an easy share improvident for everyday use. Nice discovery to learn about. Thanks for sharing more.

  • I…. I feel like this is one of those products that’s (based on the video) targeted at women in an almost demeaning way, like pink hammers. I mean, there’s nothing especially wrong with this camera, or with pink hammers for that matter, but the video seems like “buy this, it’ll fit into your clutch wallet, and you can put animated hearts on your photos with your friends, but never mind about the details” to me. The specs aren’t terrible, but they’re not great, either. The original Kandao Qoocam did more years ago in a similar but not quite so beautiful package. There doesn’t seem to be a tripod mount (the video at 0:33 shows charging contacts at the base) but instead just a stand, so I wonder how useful the camera is when you’re not standing around a table with your friends for an animated heart photo. Plus, the video from ~0:16 to ~0:22 is just… creepy.

I mean, I’m not necessarily saying I won’t get it. I’m just saying I won’t feel good about myself for getting it.

    • Given this is from Ricoh, this product is most likely the result of long-term market research. I don’t see anything demeaning about it. There have always been regular cameras that were aimed at fashion-conscious people that were not necessarily tech-savvy and there is also a market for cameras that can fit easily in a pocket or bag. I think this camera fits both profiles.

My only problem with this camera is its surprisingly high retail price. US$299. for an automatic camera meant for people who only take casual shots and then another US$98.00 just for the case ??? That is insane. I think this will need to be massively discounted if it is to be a success.

  • This camera does have its place. The tiny size helps, but it is a bit expensive considering, especially the case. If the case cost included a dedicated wifi controller/ data storage, perhaps. Really, it needs more differentiation from the regular Theta range, which are still pretty good on size. For the guys, they can perhaps have it stashed in the girlfriend’s handbag for those group shots at the party.

  • The size is outstanding. Is there a info about the minimum stitching distance available (for using in small places)?
