  • hi … Thanks for the codes .. im planing to get another one ….
but b4 I would like to know if there will be a desktop app soon .. other ways any other to process the images from xiaomi and ad a own logo ???
    Thanks

  • Jason Wang wrote to me and said as follows about PC requirements for the stitching software:
“We’re using I7-6700@3.4GH,16G memory, SSD harddisk, Geforce 960 video card. From this configuration, we can get quick stitching and preview and playback. We used slower computers, the difference was on speed. The higher configuration, the faster stitching and view process. Hope it helps”.

  • hi,

i bought this camera but i need to know what´s the best software to stiching the videos, and the process that you use.

    thanks.

  • I played around properly with my new Mi Sphere camera last night, after your advice about SD cards on YouTube, actually taking it outside to shoot in the sunlight. I’ve found that the gyro stabilized videos have noticeably lower quality in certain shooting conditions (especially in lower light & confined spaces) where they have quite a bit of unpleasant looking blurring, while the non stabilized videos look incredible for an all-in-one 360 camera! So I think I will stick to non stabilized mode except for situations where I know I won’t be able to keep the camera level.

But this leads me to my question – at some point last night I became unable to export without the gyro enabled & now no matter what I do, the exported video viewed via the Android Photos app is always gyro stabilized? I am using a Google Pixel with the latest version of Android.

I have tried shooting new videos, making sure the gyro option is disabled, then exported both the regular way via the preview & the second way via the edit method (thanks for explaining this in a previous post!), but they always come out gyro stabilized! If I tell the app to export a non gyro stabilized little planet video… it still gives me a gyro stabilized mirror ball video!

I tried reinstalling the app, making sure to manually delete all of the folders that it makes as well, but it didn’t make a difference. I then tried installing a previous version of the app (1.6.6.13395), but I had the same problem. I then tried installing an even older version of the app (1.6.0.11908) from before the gyro stabilization option had been introduced, but it was unable to download the videos to the phone – perhaps it is not forward compatible with the newer firmware on the camera. I have also tried the factory reset option, but this didn’t help – I definitely think it is a bug with the app & not with the camera itself.

Have you experienced this issue before? It is quite frustrating because I can shoot footage that looks amazing in the Mi Sphere app when previewed without the gyro, but when I export it so that I can use it elsewhere it forces the gyro on & it no longer looks as good. And I would quite like to play with little planet videos as well! Hopefully a future app update will fix this bug & the upcoming desktop software will make the whole process even easier, but in the meantime I am hoping to discover a fix that will let me keep using the camera.

    • Hi CJ! Congrats on getting the Xiaomi! You can disable stabilization in two ways: first, if you start your recording as soon as possible after powering on, then there will most likely be no stabilization. The second way is to install version 1.6.3 of the app, which has no stabilization when exporting. You can find it here: http://ez-team.com/xiaomi/

I also highly recommend joining the Facebook group I created for Mi Sphere: https://www.facebook.com/groups/mijia360cam

      Best regards,
      Mic

      • Thanks Mic!

I actually found the group yesterday & then went through all of the versions of the app at the ez-team site until I found that 1.6.3 worked how I wanted. I am very impressed with the quality of the stitching – I have previously used a 6x GoPro 4 Black setup with Kolor Autopano & the footage from the Xiaomi actually looks better despite the lower resolution & only taking a fraction of the time to process (a few minutes on my phone instead of an entire day on my computer!) simply because there are less obvious stitching elements.

I am now hoping for good weather tomorrow so I can fly the Xiaomi from a drone & experiment with stabilizing both via the gyro & via Mettle Skybox Studio (now free to all Adobe Creative Cloud subscribers).

Keep up the great work on this site & your YouTube channel 🙂

  • yesterday there was another new app update pushed to android phones. New filters are now implemented but the same issue which appeared in all versions after 1.6.3 is still present. The photo and video quality is still really bad. So users have to decide if they want to go with good quality photos/videos (with app 1.6.3.xx) but without exif data or if they want correct exif data with bad image/video quality.

Xiaomi please take care first of the real weak points in you software and after that add playing functions like filters…

      • Yesterday a new android app and firmware was deployed and the photo quality gets back to good conditions like it was on 1.6.3 version but they introduced now a new issue with the wifi. when you want to dowload a photo in 4 cases out of 5 the wifi shuts down in the camera and cancels the transfer.

It is really annoying how they waste marketshare with such horrible software…

  • Sorry for being harsh to you BUT mijia mi sphere is not 3.5k camera as far as video is concerned … It is a 2.88k camera since (3456×1728)/(1920×1080)=2.88 …

    • Hi Nick. When they say 4K they are referring to the horizontal resolution which is 3840 (i.e., 3840 x 2160 or for 360 cameras 3840 x 1920 because of the 2:1 ratio). It is true that 4K is 4 times the resolution of FHD but no one is saying 3.5K is 3.5 times the resolution of FHD.

  • Thank you Mic would you please be kind to ad a link to the iOS Xiaomi mijia app and the new desktop application we do not read Chinese 🙂
    Regards Svendus

  • I’m planning on using Xiaomi Mijia 3.5k as a 360 camera with my wheelchair and iphone 5s as a the live viewer so I can see what is behind me and all around if needed. I plan to power both using a 12v cigarette USB adapter off the wheelchair battery. Can I leave the Xiaomi powered (by USB) on all day with no problems?

    • Hi Chad. Wow that’s a great idea. As for overheating, Xiaomi is pretty good and may last a couple of hours but I don’t know if Xiaomi can do that literally all day long. I’m trying to think of which consumer camera is most resistant to overheating… hmmm. Maybe Allie? It is made for 24hr live streaming. http://amzn.to/2iqvwq4 That or Ricoh R (which is kind of expensive). Best regards, Mic

  • Your coupon code made the international version cheaper than the domestic one, thanks a lot! I didn’t want a cam like this, but just saw a comparison between the different 360° cams, and this seemed to be the best, and with your coupon code I just ordered one.

  • Have been wanting to get the Xiaomi Mijia 360 for a while and have just pulled the trigger, thanks for the codes!! Grabbed the selfie stick too. Looking forward to seeing how it compares to my Gear 360 2016 which I still think is a great 360 camera for it’s price, but the digital stabilisation on this for video looks pretty amazing.

      • Hi Mic Ty, if I just bought the mi sphere and selfie stick with the 360rm11.11 code on Friday. Now you have the better deal 185 price. Can I get my order to this better price??

        • Hi Micky. I’m not sure. Pls. email me your order number and email address. We’ll see what we can do, but no guarantees.

          Best regards,
          Mic

  • Finally decided to get it while I await the Yi 360. At less than $200 using one of your discount codes it’s almost a no brainer. And flying it from one of my drones will be less nerve-wracking price-wise. Thanks.

  • Darn, I missed the sale price of $185 by a couple of minutes (wanted to buy just before I left on a flight, so only commenting now). Hope to see it come back very soon as I’m sure to grab it at that price.

Thanks so much for the great review and links to such fantastic prices. 🙂

  • Couple data points. I have a Mi MAX 2 that works just fine with both the Mi Sphere Camera app and Madventure 360 app.

For those that are stitching with the PC Mi Sphere App something to consider is the many small low cost PC tablets. I have a HP Stream 7 that worked just fine in tests for stitching (Completely different from Android app of the same name)

  • Hello! Thank you for the coupons, I tried the “360Rumors1” and got the message: The Code you entered has expired. Let me know if is there any other coming on its way then I wait to buy through your code.

  • Hi Mic,
I’m a great follower of your post and reviews. I started my 360 VR photography profession by watching your videos. Then, I decided to purchase Xiaomi mijia 360 camera.

I have ordered Xiaomi Mijia 360 camera from one of your affiliate link on gearbest.com on 22 Dec 2017 and it has been already a month over but still I didn’t get the package.I tried to contact the customer support but they don’t care about it and I’m having issue in tracking info page when I click on “View Tracking Message” it’s just showing “Sorry, your shipping information has not updated yet!”…

    My Tracking Number: RG966263727BE
    Order No.:W1712202321516376

As you told you have good contact with the gearbest.com rep please try to help me with this issue as I have purchased through one of your affiliated link you have posted.

    Thanks,
    Harish

    • sorry to say that and I know i’m boring ’cause I repeat my problem here but buy something to GB is not safe.
I’m waiting since more than 2 month and still nothing !
GB promess a tracking but it doesn’t exist and promess a 7-15 days by post = it’s a lie !

Sorry for you and hope you’ll have more chance as me

      • Hi Franck. I’m very sorry for the delay. 2 months delay is very strange because they have it in stock. Anyway, I’ve sent an email to my representative and included you so that when she replies you will be able to see it. Again, I apologize for the delay.

        Best regards,
        Mic

        • Thanx Mike
I know it’s not your fault and I think it’s not good to say that on your super site but I have to tell the truth.
You are always on top! I had an email from your representative but I can not believe it when he tells me that my package is in France.

          Here’s why.

The problem comes from GB who took advantage of the black friday but never sent orders. We are hundreds in this case (cameras, phones, laptop ….)
GB gave us false tracking and made us believe that this is happening soon (wait 7 days, then 10 more … and more and more …) since more than 2 month now !
The numbers do not exist at the local post office.
We all complained and asked for the refund from Paypal and there – by magical mystic – the tracking list was activated.
Here is my tracking according to GB

          http://www.faryaa.com/user/index/package-refer/type/track?order_number=9L23688259928&button_search=Track

Something wrong, my package is in France: D …. since December 19 th but also arrive in France yesterday!
Two trips to France: Bizare. entered then exit then entered again in France ??? !!! ????

When I contact them they tell to me that my neighbor has certainly stolen me, then there are repeated strikes (french clichés), then there are snowstorms for two months and the MUST is the carrier who lost an entire train BUT my pack is in France (tracking)

I know that ordering in China is a long and complicated step but that have nonsense!

For GB, it is always the fault from others but not of them. I realy think that they have neglected European customers.

I do not know what to think today. I am punished to wait until one day maybe my package comes back to me

      • Thank you for these warnings… I regularly order from gearbest and usually get good shipping speeds. However I need this camera before april; or I won’t be able to bring it with me on holiday. I’d rather pay a little extra through AliXpress then not having it on time.

  • hi guys. hard problem, i’m confused. i have my Mi over GearBest and i´m lucky, but… i got the mi and made myself 2 phones free for the app, now an iPhone 5 with 10.3. ios and a umi Rome X with 5.1 android! now hold on! no phone is really working with the app, neither the iphone with the mac ios app nor the android phone with 5.1… no preview in iPhone and the App crashed in Android 5.1
    what am I doing wrong?

    Greetings

    • Hello my friend. iPhone 5 is not enough. You need at least iPhone 6. Umi Rome X is also not enough. For Android, you need Snapdragon 625 or better. If you have a PC, you can stitch with Mi Sphere app for Windows.

      Best regards,
      Mic

  • I was about to buy a gear 360 2017 as a first 360 cam. Than watched your videos and read your blogs and now all I want is this camera! It seems I just missed the promotion of the 5th of July. I hope there is going to be another one soon 🙂
    Thank you

  • Hi Mic,

Thanks a lot for the links! Just ordered my Xiaomi Mi Sphere today through GearBest! Hopefully it will arrive soon! Keep up the good work!

  • HI Mic. I am from the UK and tried to order the camera via your link from Gearbest and I just couldn’t do it. Went through checkout and it won’t accept my address. Kept saying destination postal address invalid. It is an address in London, UK and I’ve lived here for 12+ years without problem. Then I tried to create and register an account thinking this might help. But it won’t accept it. Every time tried to login it said ‘mail or password incorrect’. And there’s no way to contact support from the website??? Went to the contact page but got stuck about there. couldn’t go further. Something’s wrong with it.

    • Hi Kim! I’m sorry about that and I appreciate your support. i’ll ask GB for a link that works for UK buyers. Best regards, Mic
