Xiaomi Mijia Mi Sphere desktop PC app updated and FIXED!

A few days ago, Xiaomi posted the desktop app for the Xiaomi Mijia MI SPHERE 360 camera, but it wouldn’t work for most users. Now, Xiaomi has updated the app and it now works!

Just days after users complained about errors in running the desktop app, the Xiaomi Mijia MI SPHERE team led by Jason Wang identified the cause, namely the type of graphics card used.  In particular, NVidia or AMD graphics cards would cause errors, while Intel graphics cards would have no error.

The Mi Sphere team has solved the issue for NVidia cards (yes I tested it and it works).   Here is the new version of the app.  With this correction, they’ve made the workflow much easier for users with an Intel or NVidia graphics card!  They’re still working on solving the issue for AMD / Radeon graphics cards.

  • +Mic Ty The PC software works very well with sooo good stitching!! I’m impressed! And very pleased! Just miss that last level of quality to get the crispy sharp look that the raw spherical video’s got…anyway…now, with the PC software running I’m even more satisfied with the decision to buy the Xiaomi!

  • Takes ages, stitching is great, at the highest point there is some circular distortion.
Think I’ll be trying the adobe method too.

  • Love this site!!! Best up-to-date info! So I’ve tried the PC software on 3 different Win10 PCs an, AMD , NVidia , and an old no graphic card one. Unfortunately the program doesn’t do much. Installs properly, appears to start properly, but I cant even “open” or “browse files”, It allows me to find the files on the computer, but once I select one literally nothing happens. I Love the camera and “workarounds” are in my nature, but so far for me this software has no pulse.

Hoping a 3rd update is in the works!!!

    • Hi Jason! Thanks and sorry for the belated reply. I will post a tutorial. But in the meantime, have you tried opening a folder instead of a file? Then allow it some time to “load local files.”
      Best regards,
      Mic

  • Hi all,
I tried the app and works perfectly for videos, but i cannot stitch pictures with it. When i load the folder where the pictures and videos are saved in the microsim, only videos can be exported for stitching. As i use a samsung galaxy s5 to export, it appears that pictures lose quality when stitched and downloaded through the mobile app. Can anyone confirm this? Anyone having the same issue? Thank you in advance

  • Hello, can you Connect two cameras together through the wifi to one smartphone? I hace one camera and a Xiaomi Mi6 and im thinking on buying a second for taking 3D 360 vídeos with them

  • Hi

My PC is an HP Omen with Nvidia GTX 1070 Win 10. The video files are on my HDD. So far, the PC app is still useless. I updated to the latest version. but Browse files remains blank, Player mode plays a flat video, none of the player options (spherical…) seems to work.

And on the Android app side,it’s not better, Of course, I don’t have a snapdragon 820 or above, and the my Sphere android app crashes on opening onto my ASUS ZenPad Z580C tablet, powered by intel, android 6. I tried the Play Store version as well as several versions of the apk you linked.

    Can I say I’m disappointed ?

    • Hi BS.one. Sorry about that. Pls. post in Xiaomi Mi Sphere forum on facebook facebook.com/groups/mijia360cam . There are lots of helpful folks there who may be help you troubleshoot the issue.

      Best regards,
      Mic

    • Hi Uthai. I don’t know for sure. It is probably best to download the app to try it out. Pls. see the link in the article.

      Best regards,
      Mic

    • Hi Stefano. I recommend you join the Mi Sphere Facebook group: facebook.com/groups/mijia360cam and post a message there, then tag Jason Wang (you’ll see he’s one of the moderators). Thanks again!

  • Unfortunately, the problem with Nvidia video cards continues to be present (Mi sphere camera 1.1.0.16).
I have a laptop (low performance) with Intel video cards and I do not encounter any problems in video stitching (just long time to wait). With my “uber” desktop (nvidia video card) the software does not work .
When will we be able to have a decent software to make videos in equirectangular?
Anyway, what software do you use to make video stitching?

    • Hi Marco. In the new app, there is no photo export because when you view a photo, it already downloads it to your phone. I hope that helps! Best regards, Mic

      • Yes but those double sphere images are not being converted into the flat/equirectangular format via the pc version of the app. It imports the photo file and if i click on export it simply just exports the exact same image, it doesn’t stitch it.

        • Hi Trav. I’ve used the Mi Sphere app to stitch photos. It should work… I plan to do a tutorial for it. Best regards, Mic

          • I tried to stich the videos on my desktop but it does not seem to work. I looked at youtube how to videos and when I open the file to stich there is only one side of the video (ie. video number.AA .MP4) and not the AB part. What am I doing wrong?. My process is I take out the SD card from the camera and then inserted into my computer. Then I use the app to open the folder to click on the video to stich. But I only see the AA or AB part of the video only. At first I thought I only need one since it will automatically get the other but after trying to stich it it doesn’t work when I tried to view it on the app.

Photo stitching doesn’t work for me.

        • That sounds strange. Are you looking in the export directory? I recommend posting to facebook.com/groups/mijia360cam so xiaomi engineers can help you (please note it is the start of their very long new year holiday)
          Best regards,
          mic

  • You still can’t view photos or videos on the desktop using the app. Anyone know when or if Xiaomi are going to give us those features?

    • Replying to my own request. I just saw “Mic Ty” about stitching photo tutorial He is going to do. I’ll be waiting also for the tutorial since I’ve tried it and it doesn’t seem to work.

  • Hi Team

I wanted to know what is the minimum requirement for hardware on a PC for the desktop app of Mijia sphere panaromic camera to run. I have been trying to run the desktop app on my home PC and it crashes after I add videos to stitch. the moment I click export the entire app crashes and shuts down.

I have a PC with i3 processor 4th generation 3.0 Ghz, 4 Gigs of RAM 1333 Mhz single channel DDR3, H81 Gigabyte motherboard, 2 TB HDD 7200 rpm.

I can upgrade as per your suggestion, but I wanted to know what is a good configuration for a PC to run Mijia sphere desktop app for stitching of Videos captured on the mijia sphere panaromic camera.

    Regards,
    Vinay Singh

  • Im a Mac user. I love the camera. I just want to stitch dual fish eyes photos. Its difficult make decent results even using presets for Xiaomi with Autopano or PTGui. The Xiaomi or Madventur software it´s not stitching photos…(I have a Win PC) We really need some simple software or even cheap software to stitch. Please ! and Thank You.

    • Hi Gabriel. Congrats on getting the Xiaomi. It’s a good thing you have a Windows PC. To use the MiSphere app for Windows, just open the file, select check mark for the file(s), type in the export directory, and click on Export! That’s it!

      Best regards,
      Mic

      • Solved Mic ! Sorry….Was so simple. The dual sphere photos from the Mijia 360 camera who are visualized by the “Mi Sphere” App needs to be downloaded (to the Phone), when you download one or many photos to the phone the App ALSO “stitch” those photos ! SIMPLE ! So now they are all the photos already stitched inside my camera roll on the iPhone. I dont prube with DNG photos, only JPG. Hope help some mac and iOS Xiaomi neewbes users.

    • Hi, I was also tired of downloading the files from the mi Sphere to the iPhone to then send them back to my laptop… I therefore made a poc to watch the files directly on the browser. It is self-hosted and you can try it here:
      http://195.201.225.171/

I recommend using chrome as I only tested on that browser. I should work on windows and linux as well.

      Current restrictions:
      – It takes only 29.7 FPS movies, it should work with different rates but the gyro data will not match
      – The stitching could be improved
      – It DOES USE THE GYRO DATA but sometimes takes a lot of time to find the orientation data from the file as I am doing a brute force search
      – I saw that I could improve the projection, some straights lines appear in an “S” shape
      – There is no export function yet… I might put this feature sooner or later, it’s not hard but I need time to do it properly

You can write me to flavien.volken+madv [at] gmail.com

  • I have AMD Radeon R7 200 Series. As you saying the team still working on that problem, is it possible to get notice when update will be released. Please!

    • Hi Dmitriy. Pls join facebook.com/groups/mijia360cam There are xiaomi / madv engineers there who can tell you the status. But i thought it was already resolved.
      Best regards,
      Mic

  • I’m trying to set up the xiaomi mi sphere 360 camera connection to my computer running on Windows 10.
When asked to enter the”PIN from the router label”, I entered “12345678” only to get the response “The PIN isn’t correct, please try again”.

I can’t find any other PIN on the camera or manual.

Please advise what I should do.

I didn’t have the problem connecting to an Android phone.

    Thank you.

    • Why deplete the camera battery when you can connect using a usb cable and load the battery at the same time ?
About battery life: the xiaomi mi sphere 360 battery lasts 15 minutes compared to the 60 minutes of my Ricoh Theta S which means that for most trips I still prefer the Theta S. Stitching is much better too.

  • Hey I want to shoot photos with my mi sphere outdoors in location where I cannot hide from shot, so my plan is to shoot 2 photos where I stand in front of each lens. Then in post I merge the two, but after editing the pc app won’t stitch… Whats the best way to achieve this?

    Cheers

    • Hi LA! You have the right idea. But instead, stitch the photos first. THEN mask yourself out.

      Best regards,
      Mic

  • Is there an official source to get the app from (I couldn’t find anything on their website) and is this still the latest version or is there a newer one? Thanks.

  • I have just spoke with xiaomi customer service, and they explained to me that there is no xiaomi pc version.
I needed help because, after I downloaded Misphere camera pc app, I had a problems, and there was no possibility to stitch or edit images.
Can someone explain to me who is telling the truth, the rumors, or customer service from Mi company??

  • Any updated version ofthis Sw.
Donwloading 10min videos with smartphone , its a pain, and converting and sharinhmg in you tube is almost impossíble after i moced the files to my smartphone SDcard I want PC updated version please.
Whats the link to xiaomi sphere sw page?

  • I installed your app to my PC, downloaded your unstiched jpg files to test it and tried to open your jpg file. I can see it ( about 9MB), but can’t open it

  • I have tried the desktop apps without success…transfer the photo and video from micro sd to my computer but nothing show on the apps…

Can someone tell me what I have done wrong?

    Thanks

  • Can’t even see the raw files… If I edit raw (DNG) files in lightroom, stiched jpeg results as a black image… GJ once again

  • The camera may be good but the information on how to use the camera, the software both for the desktop and mobile device and the manual are a joke.

  • Hi Mic, I tried to install app from Xiaomi manual QR code to my LG7, but I got the message: No eligible device for app install. Does it mean I need to purchase a new cell phone, or the app from QR is old one, not updated

  • Has anyone got this to work on a Microsoft Surface or an HP laptop? I am a mac user and would like to buy a little pc laptop just to stich. Really appreciate the help

  • I have windows 10 home with an AMD processor. I can download the video and transcode it (albeit very slowly) but in the Mad360 video folder I get the message that it cannot play because the graphics are not supported.
    So, no stitched video.
I also have a Xiaomi Redmi 7 phone and that also cannot stitch the video. I bought the phone to match the camera – a bad choice!
So I can take these amazing videos and photos but only watch them if I upload to FB or Youtube or onto my iphone, which is not what I wanted them for.

Please come up with another update!! ASAP please!

    Louise

    • Hi Louise. I think you might be viewing the wrong file. If you’re able to upload them to YouTube then that means you were able to stitch them.

    • You need to have on you PC or laptop, tablet, players such as “VLC player” google it, or “RICOH THETA”, “RICOH THETA Movie Converter”, ” Insta360 Player” and “Movavi 360 Video Editor”… google it, its free.

    • Hi Dmitriy. Sorry, there is nothing like that even for the One R (which is one of the few 360 cameras with a filter). If you need to use a polarizer, I recommend using a DSLR to shoot your 360 photo.

      • what i meant is the camera is always on auto. it turns out that everything in the front is white – everything in the cabin of the car, everything is normal … that’s why

        • Hi Dmitriy. The highlight range of the Mi Sphere is limited so that’s why the outside of the car is overexposed. The solution is to use bracketing.

          Best regards,
          Mic
