How would you like to capture videos with a telephoto lens or shallow depth of field in 5.3K? How about macro shots of insects? You can, with Micro Four Thirds lenses (or C-Mount lenses) on your Insta360 One R with the new Ribcage Mod Kit for One R.
Insta360 One R, the only modular 360 camera that converts to a 4K camera, is now even more versatile. Back-Bone Gear, makers of ribcage mods for GoPro, has announced Ribcage Mods for Insta360 One R 1-inch mod and 4K mod that allow you to attach Micro Four Thirds lenses or C-mount lenses to your One R. You can even use other types of lenses with a suitable Micro Four Thirds adapter (sorry, Sony E-mount is not possible).
Please note the field of view will be narrower from the standard field of view of a Micro Four Thirds lens. The Micro Four Thirds crop factor is 2X, while the One R’s 1-inch mod crop factor is 2.7X. A normal 25mm lens on Micro Four Thirds (50mm full frame equivalent) will be around 67.5mm full frame equivalent on a 1-inch sensor.
The kit includes an IR filter and an aluminum mounting bracket that has 1/4-20 tripod holes on the top, bottom, and side. The MFT and C-Mounts are interchangeable on this kit.
Please note that you will need to disassemble your 1-inch mod and this will require some skill, and will void your warranty.
The kit is $249 for the 1-inch mod and $189 for the 4K mod, and are available on Back-Bone’s website.
I’ll buy one of those right away and, of course, will promptly ditch the neat Leica lens in the ol’ wastebasket ! 😉
I would like to use a lot of those assembled to a 360 rig, if there was only a way to sync the cameras…
