Sony has finally announced the Playstation VR2’s launch date and price. PSVR 2 will be launching on February 22, 2023 and will retail for $549. Sony said it will produce 2 million PSVR 2 units. You can register to pre-order here.
Should You Reserve a PSVR 2 or Get a Quest 2?
For most people, the choice between Playstation VR2 and Quest 2 will be based on whether they are console gamers or PC gamers or neither. If you’re a PC gamer, you can get the same or better VR experience with a Quest 2, which can be used as a PC VR headset.
If you’re a console gamer, having to upgrade your PC to be VR ready may require you to get a new graphics card. While they’ve become more affordable because of the cryptocurrency crash, it’s not a small purchase and many console gamers will probably just get a Playstation 5 and a PSVR 2 instead.
If you’re neither a console gamer nor a PC gamer and you simply want VR, then without question, the Quest 2 is the better choice. Even though its graphics aren’t as good as those of the PSVR 2, you’ll be able to take the Quest 2 with you anywhere, and it will have a much larger software library than the PS5. Because of the convenience of being able to pick up the Quest 2 anytime and use it without setup, I’ve used it far more than any of my other VR headsets.
