How would you like a drone that can capture any angle while being totally invisible in the video?  BetaFPV X-Knight 360 is the first FPV drone by a major manufacturer that is designed specifically to capture an aerial 360 or non-360 video without the drone in the shot, using an Insta360 One R (reviewed here).  Here are sample videos:

FPV drones or freestyle drones are drones that are highly maneuverable and have a camera to provide the pilot with a first person view using googles.   Unlike consumer drones from DJI and Parrot which use GPS to keep the drone stable, FPV drones are controlled entirely by the pilot, which makes them much more difficult to fly, but also makes it possible to perform aerobatic movements that would be impossible on a consumer drone.

When you combine the maneuverability of FPV drones with the infinite variety of angles of a 360 camera, then you can capture amazing perspectives.  But now there are new 360 camera FPV drones that are designed to capture aerial 360 videos without the drone in the shot.  The latest such 360 camera FPV drone is X-Knight 360.

Whereas previous 360 camera FPV drones have been designed by individual FPV pilots, the X-Knight 360 is made by a major FPV manufacturer.  It is designed specifically for the Insta360 One R, a modular 360 camera.  The X-Knight takes advantage of the One R’s modularity to save weight by removing the One R’s battery. Instead, the One R will be powered by the X-Knight’s battery.  BetaFPV also created a low-profile battery that was sufficiently powerful yet would still be invisible in the shot.

But how good is the X-Knight 360?  Here are hands-on first impressions of the X-Knight by Nurk FPV, a renowned FPV racer and YouTuber.

I hope BetaFPV improves the design of the X-Knight to make it more durable.  I also hope that other FPV manufacturers take notice and create their own 360 camera FPV drones.

WHERE TO BUY; MORE INFO ABOUT FPV

X-Knight 360 is available for purchase from Insta360, with or without the One R, or direct from BetaFPV, either $249 with an analog camera, or $359 with the digital Caddx Nebula Nano HD camera, which is compatible with DJI’s digital FPV goggles.  Note: the battery is not included and is currently out of stock.  If you want to know more about FPV drones, check out Basic FPV, a site I created that has information for beginners.

  • Low quality and terrible customer service don’t buy it..

I sincerely regret that I bought this from them. First of all I bought drone and two batteries for it. One battery arrived dead. Drone stopped working during first attempt to fly it. But when I contact them to change it (I understand that it complicated electronics and things happened). They propose me to fix it by myself even if it under 30 days warranty. Do not buy from them. There is plenty other drone makers around.

    • This is the same level of customer service I’ve received from BetaFPV. I bought the bind and fly version and they sent me the the LBT version instead of the FCC RX version. Their solution was for me to replace the RX myself. I get it, it’s only a few wires to solder but what was the point of buying the BNF version. They told me they were out of stock of the FCC versions so that me replacing the RX was the only way to rectify the problem. At that point I opened the sealed box and noticed the BEC board adapter (to power the Insta360 Camera) was also missing. I emailed them and over a week later they replied, completely ignoring the fact that I was missing the BEC board, telling me they sent me a new RX economy shipping. The drone took 7 weeks to get here economy so I guess I wait almost two months to get my part. The whole waiting a week to get a response from them about an error on their part is frustrating. They made little effort to correct their error expecting the end user to repair the issue themselves. That’s pretty poor customer service, slightly a step up from just completely ignoring me.

      • Thanks Karl and sorry to hear that. Actually I had just received my X-knight. I’d better inspect the package. Going forward, I’ll order from local distributors instead such as pyrodrone or getfpv.
