The sale is for the following cameras:

  1. Qoocam 8K: $579 from Kandao (regularly $599).  Exclusive bonus: selfie stick with smartphone mount.   This is the first 8K consumer 360 camera and features a larger 1/1.7-inch sensor (compared to the 1/2.3 inch sensor of other consumer 360 cameras).

Qoocam 8K has the best bit depth among consumer 360 cameras, making its colors appear richer.  Here is a comparison with One R, GoPro MAX and One X2.  If you look at my forehead, the One R, One X2, and GoPro MAX look similar, but the Qoocam 8K looks noticeably richer, with a smoother highlight transition.  You can also see the highlights of my mask are not as blown out.   I will do a more detailed comparison next time.

  1. Qoocam Fun: $149 from Kandao (regularly $169).  This is a smartphone 360 camera for Android phones.  I’ve been shooting a few weeks with it and will post a review.  It’s better than I expected. and in my opinion, it is the best affordable 360 camera for videos as of December 2020.

  1. Qoocam (reviewed here): $319 from Kandao (regularly $451).  Qoocam is a hybrid VR180 and 4K 360 camera and has innovative features such as depth mapping.  It also has the longest recording capacity among 360 cameras, at over 3 hours on a single charge.

  • what is it that makes the qoocam footage look as bad as it does? On paper the specs are absolutely perfect, but overcapture footage just looks bad still. Is it a bad sensor? Bad software?

    • In my opinion, qoocam is not bad, and in fact the sensor is the best sensor for 360 cameras in my opinion, but it seems to be limited by the lens.
