Insta360 X4 release date info LEAKED

Insta360 X4 release date

Are you wondering if there will be an Insta360 X4 (or a successor to the popular Insta360 X3) in 2023?  A reliable insider source has informed me that there won’t be an X4 in 2023.  Although some Insta360 fans may be disappointed, that’s good news.

Insta360 X3 (reviewed here) is the most popular 360 camera in the market (quite possibly the most popular 360 camera ever made).  Not only is it easy to use, but it has a lot of features including having the first totally invisible underwater dive case for consumers.

INSTA360 X4 RELEASE DATE

With the X3’s popularity, many are wondering when the X3’s successor will be available.  After all, GoPro releases a new Hero model every year, and a Hero 12 is expected in September 2023.

In the past, Insta360’s X-series cameras have been roughly on a two-year release date cycle:

Based on this release schedule, X4 is expected in 2024.  This has been further confirmed by a reliable insider source, who said that there will be no X4 in 2023 (although the source could not say whether X4 would be released in 2024).

WHY THIS IS GOOD NEWS

Although many Insta360 fans are eager to see what X4 would be like, I think it’s good news that X4 isn’t being released in 2023 for several reasons.

First, the X3 was released in 2022.  If and when the X4 in released, the perception of the X3’s value would decrease even though there would be no change in the actual performance of the X3.  For those who invested in the X3, their investment would depreciate too rapidly.

Second, having a longer gap between the X3 and the X4 gives Insta360 more time to add features and to test them.  Instead of seeing an incremental gap, there is a higher likelihood that X4 would be a more significant improvement over the X3.

  • Hey Mic, I think your points are exactly correct! I’m an X3 owner and I’m not ready for a new model and would probably not buy one at this point even tho I love the X3!

BTW, what I’m really hoping for is a Evo replacement from Insta360?? Please probe your resources and report back ANYTHING you find out! Keeping my fingers crossed! Tks!

    • I really love vr180 but I haven’t heard anything about evo or “3d mod”. Calf VR does have significantly better image quality than evo but it isn’t cheap. I may be reviewing it soon.

  • The difference have been so minimal this far, that I’d personally expect another lackluster “upgrade”. Granted, the ease of use has gotten better, but the darn image quality has not. That’s what’s most important to me. Still using the X here.

    • I agree there hasn’t been a big leap in image quality since the gopro fusion (not max). But workflow has become much easier eg with auto track and me mode. Colors and sound quality have also improved. So has dynamic range with X3 active HDR.

  • 100% I wish that the X4 will be 8k so waiting another year is OK for me, maybe I should sell my X3 next summer 😅😉

    • very soon Erik! I’d love to talk more about it and I’m trying to ask kandao to let me tell you guys more about it but so far they don’t want. So all I can say is “soon”.

  • I expect X4 with a 1-inch sensor. Other characteristics will remain virtually unchanged. This would explain why they abandoned their 1-inch Leica model.

    • If they can cram 1 inch sensors into something of similar dimensions to the x4, it would be insane but I also think too pricey and over specced for most consumers.

  • The One R (s) is the next camera to be released with an update. It has now serious fallen behind the latest GoPro and even further with the DJI Osmo Action 4.

  • Hallo, bin recht neu im 360 Grad Thema unterwegs und hätte gerne gewusst ob es zum Veröffentlichung Termin zur x4 schon etwas konkretere gibt und ob die x4 GPS haben wird ?

  • I would like to see 2 versions of the X4. One for stills and one for video, rather than a single camera that has to compromise. The current crop of 360 cameras have too low a resolution. The resolution of the XPhase scan is where the X4 needs to be, but without the need to rotate the device. I like the shooting experience of the original One X I have, but image quality is awful. I use a full frame mirrorless and 12mm fisheye when I want quality over convenience.
