360 Camera Reviews FPV

“Frickin powerful”: FPV pilot Joshua Bardwell compares GoPro MAX vs. Insta360 One R

The FPV community is beginning to embrace the amazing creative possibilities of 360 cameras, such as being able to capture an incredible third person view, and the invisible flying camera effect. Here’s an in-depth review and comparison of the GoPro MAX and Insta360 One R by Joshua Bardwell, who has one of the most popular FPV channels on YouTube.

As a beginner FPV pilot, I love Josh’s videos because they are very thoughtful, informative and impartial.  I’m glad to see him getting into 360 and it is very interesting to see his newcomer’s perspective on the GoPro MAX and Insta360 One R.

I completely agree with Josh that tiny planets are just a novelty and give the wrong impression of the best use for 360 cameras, which are more useful for their reframing capability and 3rd person view.

Minor correction: the One R is 5.7K total resolution, not per lens.

One thing I disagree about the menu.  I’m not sure if he saw that on the One R main screen, you can also swipe left, which reveals many other settings that are very logically arranged.  With the One R’s menu, I can access settings with fewer steps.

Anyway, I’m glad to see Josh review the One R and Max.  I hope to see more FPV pilots use 360 cameras.
