You’ll be able to fly an X-Wing or TIE Fighter in VR with the launch of Star Wars: Squadrons just a few hours from now. Squadrons does not require a VR headset and is in fact also available on PS4 and Xbox One, but on a PC, you’ll be able to use a VR headset to experience flying in virtual reality. Here’s a sample gameplay video from the VR version and an in-depth tutorial.
Squadrons is a first-person shooter with both single-player and multiplayer. The single-player campaign is about 8 or 9 hours, according to Norm from Tested. The heart of the game is multiplayer (one-on-one or 5 vs. 5).
Squadrons is available on Steam VR for $39 and is compatible with Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, Valve Index, and Windows Mixed Reality. You can use the Oculus Quest as well via Oculus Link to a VR-ready PC. To use the VR version, simply toggle the VR option in the settings. Please note that for this game, you’ll need to either have a keyboard and mouse, gamepad or HOTAS.
